Kenneth Charles Ashland was born on June 14, 1931, to Carl and Edna (Thompson) Ashland in Clear Lake, Iowa. He passed away peacefully at his home in Spirit Lake on January 13, 2024, at ninety-two years of age. After graduating from Clear Lake High School, Ken served his country during the Korean War as a staff sergeant stationed at the Barksdale Air force Base. He enlisted in 1951 and was honorably discharged in 1953.

On July 14, 1956, he married the love of his life, Doris Leona Davids, in Clear Lake. Ken dedicated his skills and expertise to various professions, spending ten years in pest control, another decade in construction and twenty years in the United States Post Office. His commitment and work ethic were evident in every role he undertook.

Ken's faith was an integral part of his life and he was an active member of the Grace Lutheran Church as a Sunday school teacher and serving on church council. His service extended to organizations such as the leading cub scouts, Veterans of Foreign Wars, American Legion, and the National Rifle Association, where he held a Life membership.

Beyond his professional and community commitments, Ken found joy in his hobbies. He had a passion for flying and firearms.
