William Doornink

A memorial service for William "Bill" Doornink, of Milford, will be held at 11 am, Monday, August 24, 2026, at Turner Jenness Funeral Home in Spirit Lake.

William David Doornink, 64, passed away on Aug. 7, 2026, at Lakes Regional Healthcare in Spirit Lake.

He was born Dec. 14, 1961, to Jim and Kay Doornink.

He was a graduate of MOC-Floyd Valley and continued his education at the University of Iowa. He was a member of the Sigma Chi Fraternity, graduating with a degree in business. While at Iowa, he enjoyed attending basketball and football games. He was a season ticket holder who attended most of the Hawkeye bowl games.

After graduation, he moved to Golden, Colorado, working and enjoying the amenities of the Colorado scenery.

In 1993, he moved back to Iowa so he could be closer to his family. He enjoyed working for the city of Spirit Lake. He was a master gardener, and he had many side jobs in the Lakes region doing landscaping.

Bill is survived by his wife, Susie Jones.

Bill loved his entire family and since he did not have children, he was always available to his nieces and nephews as a devoted uncle. He will be missed by all “12” of them. Bill was so proud of all their milestones and achievements. He will be greatly missed by his sisters, Ann Doornink of Algona and Linda Mulder of Iowa City. His nieces and nephews include: Andrea Vollink, Lori Vollink, Natalie Seibold, Todd Van Otterloo, Tim Van Otterloo, Emily Van Otterloo, Cody Mulder, Megan Zeutenhorst, Tyler Mulder, Kimberly Cullen, Caleb Mulder, and Alex Mulder.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Jim and Kay Doornink; sister, Susan Postma; paternal grandparents, William and Gertrude Doornink; and maternal grandparents, Ralph and Ruth Freyder.
