A private family service will be held for William "Bill" Fredin, age 94, of Milford. Burial will be at Memory Gardens Cemetery in Spirit Lake.
William Bruce Fredin was born May 17, 1925 in Greenville, Iowa to Swan and Dagmar (Chalstrom) Fredin. He was always known as Bill. He graduated from Greenville High School in 1943, B.A. degree from Iowa State Teachers College in 1949, MA Degree from Colorado State in 1953 and post graduate work at Iowa State. He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II from 1943-1946. Bill’s four brothers also served overseas in World War II.
He married Joy Janelle Jacobsen at Kirkman, Iowa on December 28, 1949. Bill served the schools in Havelock, Webb, Royal and Corwith as a teacher, coach and principal. In 1967, the couple moved to Arnolds Park where he was the superintendent for eighteen years. He served on the boards of both the High School Boys and Girls Athletic Association and was a registered official for both. He received the Iowa School Administration Award as Superintendent in 1984, Iowa Department of Public Safety Award in 1979, Life Saving Award from the Iowa Governor in 1982 and Northwest Iowa Coaches and Officials “Hall of Fame” Award. He was a longtime member of Calvary United Methodist Church in Arnolds Park. Bill was an avid fisherman and golfer and was a member of the Okoboji View Golf Course.
Bill passed away at Accura Healthcare in Milford on April 22, 2020 after a long struggle with parkinsons and dementia.
He is survived by his wife, Joy Janelle of Milford; three adopted children, Craig and his wife, Pam, of Atlantic, Iowa, DeeAnn Warren of Winfield, Kansas and Kristi Kay Jones and her husband, Sean, of Prescott Valley, Arizona; five grandchildren, Jason, Jessica, Jonathan, Chuck and Tim; five great-grandchildren; one brother, Ell, of Gilmore City and many nieces and nephews.
Bill was preceded in death by six brothers, Harold, Vincent, Dale, Rexford, Lawrence and Reynold; one sister, Beulah; one son-in-law, Mark Warren.
