Stanley Joseph Fairbanks passed away Sunday, September 27, 2026, at the Norfolk Veterans Home in Norfolk, Nebraska where he had lived since 2022.

Stan was born on December 9, 1928, in Sioux Falls, South Dakota to Ralph and Maureen (Aldred) Fairbanks. He grew up in Milford, Iowa along with his two sisters, Shirley and Connie. He graduated in 1948 from Milford High School.

Stan was drafted into the Army in 1951 where he served in Germany during the Korean Conflict. He was honorably discharged in 1953. Also in 1951, he married Margaret Bauer of Milford. They were married at Camp Atterbury in Indiana.

Stan worked at OPPD (Omaha Public Power District) as a control room operator until his retirement. He, Margaret and their family made their home on an eighty-acre farm east of Crescent, Iowa.

Stan is survived by his two sons, Jon (Bridgitte) Fairbanks and Joe (Celeste) Fairbanks; daughter-in-law, Wendy Fairbanks; six grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Margaret; son, Dave; his parents; and his two sisters.

A graveside funeral service was held Monday October 5, 2026, at Calvary Cemetery in Milford, Iowa.
