Cheryl "Sherry" Dee Ahrenstorff, the daughter of Eldean Leora (Rogholt) and George William Pirlet, was born October 13, 1942 in Volga, South Dakota. After graduating from Volga High School, she completed one year at South Dakota State University where she studied Secretarial Science and also met a handsome farmer from Northwest Iowa.
On October 15, 1961, Sherry was married to Bob Ahrenstorff at the First Lutheran Church in Volga. This fall they celebrated their 58th wedding anniversary. She devoted her life to taking care of the home, raising their three children and helping Bob on the four generation family farm. She raised her family well, teaching hard work ethics by example which is a quality all of her children have learned and live by. Bob and Sherry later moved to their home on Silver Lake in Lake Park.
Sherry was a member of the United Methodist Church in Lake Park, was an officer and member of United Methodist Women and was involved in the church choir and bell choir. Through the years she was on several church committees/activities and cherished all the dear friendships developed there. She was a founding member of the Dickinson County Cattleman's Women's Club and a member of the Lake Park Women's Federated Club.
She enjoyed gardening and taking care of her flower beds, reading, bowling, snowmobiling, horseback riding and bottle feeding animals needing nurturing. Fun times with the family in Canada included cooking, boating and fishing. She took great joy in listening to country music, especially when her husband and son would sing in "The Countrymen". One of her favorite trips was their 50th wedding anniversary when the entire family went to the Black Hills. She loved her family and was a huge music and sports fan of her children and grandchildren.
Sherry passed away with family at her side on January 3, 2020 at her home in Lake Park, Iowa after a long, strong battle with cancer at seventy-seven years of age.
She is survived by her husband, Bob Ahrenstorff; son, Troy Ahrenstorff (Kim Medina) and his children, Brittney Ahrenstorff Kelley (Trent) and Ty Ahrenstorff (Kayla); son, Todd Ahrenstorff (Stacey) and their children, Dawson, Payton and Carlie Jo Ahrenstorff; daughter, Tricia Ahrenstorff Howard (Corey) and their son, Dylan Howard; one sister, Becky Frost (Craig, Sr.); niece and nephews, Lane Nissen, Craig Frost, Jr. and Chantelle Ovnicek.
Sherry was preceded in death by her parents, mother and father-in-law, and niece, Nikki Dreher.
