Ron Strand

A funeral mass for Ron Strand, age 70 of Spirit Lake, will be held Friday, June 19, 2026 at 3:00 PM at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Spirit Lake. A visitation will be on Thursday, June 18 from 5:00-7:00 PM at Turner Jenness Funeral Home in Spirit Lake. Burial will be at St. Mary's Cemetery in Remsen, Iowa on Saturday, June 20th at 10:00 AM.

Ronald Lee Strand, 70, of Spirit Lake, Iowa passed away peacefully in his sleep on Sunday, June 14, 2026.

Ronald was born on October 19, 1955, in Emmetsburg, to Irene and Lloyd Strand. He grew up in Emmetsburg where he developed a lifelong love of sports and competition. He graduated from Emmetsburg High School in 1974, where he participated in football and wrestling.

On April 21, 1979, Ronald married the love of his life, Renee Ahlers, in Remsen, Iowa. Together they shared forty-seven years of marriage filled with love, family, and countless memories. Ronald and Renee were blessed with three daughters, Melissa, Laura and Stephanie, who were the pride and joy of his life.

Ronald worked throughout his career at McQuay Crystal Tips, Rosenboom and the Des Moines Register. He was known for his strong work ethic, dedication and commitment to providing for his family.

A true sports enthusiast, Ronald was a passionate fan of the Iowa Hawkeyes and the Pittsburgh Steelers. His love of sports extended beyond watching games. He especially enjoyed coaching his daughter’s teams and supporting them in their athletic activities. He cherished the opportunity to be involved, encourage them and create memories together through sports.

Ronald will be remembered for his love of family, competitive spirit, his loyalty to his favorite teams and the many ways he would show up for people he loved. He leaves behind a legacy of kindness, humor, and devotion that will continue through his family and friends.

He is survived by his wife, Renee Strand; daughter, Melissa (Dan Burns) Strand of Boise, Idaho, Laura (Josh) Sherburne of Mankato, MN and Stephanie Strand of Spirit Lake; grandchildren, Owen and Addison Sherburne; many relatives and friends who will miss him dearly.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Lloyd and Irene Strand and in-laws, Ervin and JoAnn Ahlers.
