Phyllis (Seegebarth) Hanna was born on July 13, 1927, in Graettinger, Iowa, to Cecil (Pettit) and Bernard Seegebarth. She passed away peacefully, leaving behind a legacy of hard work, devotion, and gratitude for the simple beauty in everyday life.
Phyllis spent her early childhood on a farm near Graettinger. Although she was an only child, she treasured many fond memories growing up alongside her aunts, uncles, and cousins and spending her adolescent years with her grandparents on a farm near Lotts Creek. These years rooted in the countryside shaped her appreciation for the land and the values it instilled. Phyllis attended country school through the third grade before continuing her education in the Lone Rock School District.
On September 10, 1943, Phyllis married Robert Hanna, in Burt, Iowa. Together they began their life on the Hanna Family Farm. As a dedicated farm wife and partner, Phyllis worked tirelessly alongside Robert hauling grain, raising chickens, tending a large garden, and canning the harvest while raising their children. Phyllis was known for her hospitality and the hearty meals she prepared for farm workers and family alike. She had a gift for sewing and creativity, making clothing for her children, costumes for school plays, and banners for the church. Her hands were rarely still, and her home was always welcoming. A faithful member of St. John’s Lutheran Church in Burt, Phyllis was active in Ladies Aid and served for many years on both the Funeral and Visiting Committees. Her strong faith guided her life and service to others.
In 1987, Robert and Phyllis retired from farming and moved to Spirit Lake, Iowa. In retirement, she enjoyed playing cards, baking for family and friends, and engaging in good conversation. She also enjoyed the quiet moments. Whether admiring the lake, observing birds, or simply appreciating the changing seasons, small joys brought her peace and comfort. Phyllis cherished time spent with her family and friends, sharing her appreciation for the gifts of rural life through her many stories and experiences gathered over her 98 years.
Phyllis is survived by her daughters: Jeanette Jensen of Oklahoma City, Linda Feaster of Algona, and Sally Hanna of Spirit Lake and daughter-in-law, Marcia Hanna of Lone Rock. She is also survived by her grandchildren: Brenda Jensen, Julie Myrbo, Amanda Jensen, Ann Jensen, Chris Hanna, Gina (Shane) Helmers, Amy (Clint) Profit, Angela (Frank Trode) Patterson, Aaron (Amy) Patterson, Schuylar Oordt, and Emily (Chase) Moser; as well as 17 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert Hanna; sons, John "Johnny" Hanna and Eugene Hanna; great-grandchild, Solstice Jensen, son-in-law, Rich Feaster, and grandson-in-law, Chuck Myrbo.
In accordance with Phyllis’s wishes, no formal services will be held. Cards and condolences may be sent to the Hanna Family Farm, c/o Gina Helmers, 701 280th Street, Lone Rock, Iowa 50559.
