Mollie Rae McClure, 33, of Saint Joseph, MN, died on Sunday, June 29, 2025, on Waubay Lake in South Dakota.
She was born, June 10, 1992, in Worthington, MN to Scott & Terri (Rasche) McClure and joined brother Lee on the family farm in Sioux Valley, MN. She received the sacrament of baptism on September 6, 1992, at the First Presbyterian Church in Lake Park, IA, with Doug McClure and Tamara Shelton as her Godparents.
Mollie graduated from Jackson County Central High School in 2010 and continued her education in Minneapolis at the University of Minnesota. She graduated in 2015 with a Liberal Arts major in Physiology and a minor in Spanish. During her last year at the ‘U’, Mollie began working for State Farm Insurance in Eden Prairie as an Account Representative. After deciding to move closer to family, she continued with State Farm in St. Cloud at the Dan Anderson Agency and worked there until she was hired by the Minnesota Department of Corrections in St. Cloud in the fall of 2018.
At some point, she was called to be a Minnesota State Trooper. Likely heavily influenced by her older brother, she applied to, and was accepted, into the Law Enforcement Training Opportunity (LETO) program. Following completion of the initial classroom training and skills, her official entry into the State Patrol started on Monday, July 19th at 0430 at Camp Ripley as a member of the 63rd Academy. Graduation on October 22, 2021, was extra special, a celebration of her hard work and accomplishments in the academy. She received her badge #343, which her brother proudly pinned. Mollie joined her brother in District 2600, St. Cloud and despite being stationed there for her whole career, she was active in many initiatives and activities throughout the state supporting the community and other troopers. She was very proud of being a member of the Minnesota State Trooper family.
The best thing to come out of working at the prison was meeting Jay Kopel. Jay and Mollie started dating in October 2020 and were the perfect pair. Jay was Mollie’s person, and he meant the world to her. Jay became a special part of our family. They loved the outdoors and enjoyed hunting, fishing, and hiking. Somewhat shockingly, Jay was able to get Mollie to touch a fish, but not without wearing gloves! They enjoyed traveling together. Mollie and Jay first became pet parents with the arrival of Oxley, their cat. Their family grew when Mollie finally convinced Jay they needed a dog. On October 22, 2022, Arrow joined the family and was her baby. She loved taking Arrow on walks.
Mollie is survived by Jay Kopel, Arrow and Oxley all of St. Joseph, MN; Scott & Terri McClure, Sioux Valley, MN; Lee McClure & his wife, Melissa (Benson) and their children Brenna and Elijah McClure, (Brenna & Eli were her only niece and nephew, and they were incredibly special to her), St. Joseph, MN; Grandmother Betty McClure, Lake Park, Iowa; along with many Aunts, Uncles and Cousins. She was preceded in death by her first pets Doc and Lola; Grandparents Bud McClure, Leo Rasche & Rita Rasche.
