Merle Lloyd Simpson, the son of Elmer and Hazel (Milton) Simpson, was born October 25, 1922 on a farm near 12 Mile Lake in Emmet County. He graduated from high school in 1940. On January 26, 1944, Merle was united in marriage to Leona Goodman at the Little Brown Church in Nashua, Iowa. Merle moved to Spirit Lake, Iowa in 1950. He worked as a dairy farmer for many years. Merle enjoyed artifacts, guns, fishing and served as a 4-H leader for eight years. He was a member of the United Methodist Church. Merle passed away January 24, 2013 at his home in Spirit Lake at ninety-years of age. He is survived by his wife, Leona Simpson; son, Ivan Simpson and his wife, Judy; daughter, Sheryl Irvine and her husband, Jim; seven grandchildren and twelve great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, Elmer and Hazel Simpson and one brother, Milton Simpson.
