She received her early education in Laurens until the family moved to Milford and she attended St. Joseph's Catholic School. Growing up on the family farm she enjoyed all of the outside work. She loved the animals and there wasn't a chore she couldn't do. She held several different positions over the years in her work life and retired from Spencer Hospital housekeeping department in 2005. Mardell was a faithful member of St. Joseph's Catholic Church, Rosary Altar Society and 50 plus years in Catholic Daughters. Mardell and her sister Ella Mae travelled all over the United States including Hawaii and the trip of a lifetime to Europe with a visit to Lourdes. Mardell passed away October 15, 2017 at the Lakes Regional Healthcare in Spirit Lake at eighty-four years of age. Mardell is survived by two brothers, Robert (Kathleen) Eilers of Milford, Harold Eilers of Spirit Lake and sister-in-law, Sue Eilers of Spencer, Iowa. She will be greatly missed by her seven nieces and five nephews who remember being chased around the house by Mardell with a washcloth to clean their face and hands. She enjoyed visits from her great and great-great nieces and nephews and she had many friends and enjoyed making new ones after she moved into Heritage Landings. Waiting to greet her in heaven are her parents, brother and sister-in-law, Harry and Lois Eilers, brother, Herbert Eilers, sisters, Ella Mae Eilers and Rosemary Miller, along with niece, Julieann Miller Anderson.
