Funeral Service for John Hamann, age 84, of Lake Park will be held on Thursday, September 4, 2025, at 10:30am at Trinity Lutheran Church in Sioux Valley, Minnesota. Interment will be at Sioux Valley Cemetery. Visitation will take place on Wednesday, September 3, 2025, from 5:00-7:00pm at the Turner Jenness Funeral Home in Lake Park, Iowa.
John Henry Hamann, of Lake Park, Iowa, passed away on August 23, 2025, at Accura Healthcare, Spirit Lake, Iowa, at 84 years of age. He was born in Windom, Minnesota, on February, 8, 1941, to Roy and Edna (Finnern) Hamann and grew up in Sioux Valley, living in the same house for 62 years. He was baptized on March 15, 1941, and confirmed on May 22, 1955. After graduating from Sioux Valley High School in 1959, he went on to attend Worthington Junior College and the University of Minnesota before he began his farming career in 1961. He was the third-generation Hamann to farm the home place in Sioux Valley, Minnesota, until his retirement in 2021.
He was united in marriage to Deloris Erickson on June 5, 1971, at First Lutheran Church, Albert Lea, Minnesota. They lived on the Sioux Valley farm, where they raised two children, Kay and Andrew, until they moved to Lake Park in 2003.
As a lifelong member of Sioux Valley Trinity Lutheran Church, John held various offices over the course of 40 years. Dedicated to his community, he served as Clerk of Sioux Valley Township Board for 21 years.
He enjoyed bowling, trap shooting, basketball and snowmobile racing, for which he received numerous trophies and awards. He loved taking vacations with his family and road trips all over the Midwest in his ’99 red Corvette.
John’s memory will be forever cherished by his wife, Deloris Hamann; children, Kay (Brett) Yeoman, Saint Paul, MN, and Andrew Hamann, Blaine, MN; sisters Judith Hintze and Mary (Jim) Hansen; sister-in-law Nancy Hamann; nephews Paul (Jody) Hintze, Bryce (Trissi) Hintze, Byron Hamann, and Jeffrey (Cathy) Thorson.
John was preceded in death by his parents, Edna and Roy Hamann, brother Jay Hamann, brother-in-law Leonard Hintze, sister-in-law Lavonne Ruble, and parents-in-law Marie and LeRoy Erickson.
