Henry Hanby

A private family service will be held for Henry Hanby, age 96, of Spirit Lake. Burial will be at Lakeview Gardens Cemetery.
Wellington Henry Hanby, the son of W. Howard and Elva (Blew) Hanby was born November 9, 1923 in Estherville, Iowa. Henry lived on a small farm east of Spirit Lake and graduated from Spirit Lake High School.
On August 7, 1946, Henry married his childhood sweetheart, Jeanne Heick, even though the neighbors said it would never last. Jeanne and Henry were married seventy-two years.
Henry started farming when he was 16 and retired when he was 94. Jeanne and Henry traveled at every opportunity and enjoyed adventures in Europe and every state in the union. Henry didn't like the water but taught many young people how to water ski spanning several generations.
Henry passed away May 20, 2020 at his home in Spirit Lake at ninety-six years of age.
He is survived by his children, Diana (John) Sanders and William Hanby; daughter-in-law, Nancy Hanby; grandchildren, Moya Sanders, Aaron (Heather Carr) Sanders, Miranda Hanby, Dawn Geisinger and Holly Hanby; great-grandchildren, Morgan (Will Robinson) Geisinger, Paisley Williams, Taye Hanby and Elle Geisinger; great-great-grandson, Asher Robinson; sisters-in-law, Patty Carter and Judy Moon; brothers-in-law, Charles Heick, James Heick (Gloria); Aunt Winifred Scrom and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Jeanne; son, David Hanby; daughter-in-law, Cindy Hanby.
