A Celebration of Life Gathering for Grant Gilmore, age 77 of Lake Park, will be held Saturday, June 8, 2024, at the Lake Park Community Center in Lake Park from 4 - 6 pm.
Grant Lee Gilmore, son of Lee and Eileen (Beving) Gilmore, was born on January 4, 1947, in Spencer, Iowa. He attended and graduated from Sutherland High School. During high school Grant was the lead singer and bass player of The Scavengers. The band would later be honored with induction into the Iowa Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. Grant also played with such artists as Mitch Ryder & the Detroit Wheels, DJ & the Runaways, and Paul Revere & the Raiders.
Grant married Rhoda Brunz, and together they welcomed two children, Jamie and Brian. The couple later divorced. On September 18, 1995, he married Lynda McConnell in Spirit Lake, Iowa.
He started out as a farm hand for the Beving’s in Clark, SD before farming for himself south of Harris, IA. After farming, he became an owner/operator of Gilmore Trucking. A role he held until his passing.
A dedicated family man, Grant cherished watching his grandchildren play sports and enjoyed every moment spent with his loved ones. He was an avid football fan, eagerly tuning into as many NFL games as he could.
Grant passed away on June 2, 2024.
Those left to cherish his memory include his sons, Jamie (Cynthia) Gilmore and Brian (Crystal) Gilmore; stepdaughter, Tara McConnell (Jeff Mclean); grandchildren: Bailey (Ty) Anderson, Tate, Austin, Madison, Carsyn, and Kash Gilmore; step-grandchildren: Ember and Jarret; great-grandchildren: Harrison, Haivyn, Haldn, and Hadalynn Anderson; extended family and friends.
Grant was preceded in death by his wife, Lynda and parents, Lee and Eileen.
