A memorial service for Gene V. Jacobsen, 83, of Lake Park, Iowa, will be held Friday, June 9, 2017 at 2:00 PM at the First Presbyterian Church in Lake Park. Burial will be at Silver Lake Cemetery. Visitation will be on Thursday, June 8th after 5:00 PM with the family present after 6:00 PM at First Presbyterian Church in Lake Park. Gene Vincent Jacobsen, the son of Helen Anna (Miller) and Edward C. Jacobsen, was born November 5, 1933 in rural Sioux Valley, Minnesota. After graduating from Sioux Valley High School, Gene served in the United States Army for two years before being honorably discharged. On September 4, 1955, Gene was married to Diana (Hansen) Jacobsen in Lake Park, Iowa. After Gene returned from the service, Gene farmed in Sioux Valley until they moved to Lake Park in 1961. He then worked as a heavy equipment operator and drove semi truck for the elevator. He retired in 1999 but continued to work part time. He always loved his jobs and the people he worked with and he got along with everyone he met. Gene was a member of the First Presbyterian Church where he served as a deacon. He also was a member of the Odd Fellows, Sioux Valley Legion and the Lake Park Legion. He loved camping, fishing, animals, playing cards and pool and was a Minnesota Viking fan. After retirement, Gene enjoyed vacationing, attending his grandkids activities and going for coffee with his buddies. Gene passed away May 24, 2017 at St. Luke's Nursing Home in Spencer, Iowa at eighty-three years of age. He is survived by his wife, Diana; daughter, Barbara (Keith) Pedley; son, Brent Jacobsen; grandchildren, Angela (Pedley) Klaassen, David Pedley, Kyle Pedley, Tessa (Pedley) Kapperman, Kyle Jacobsen and Austin Jacobsen; ten great-grandchildren. Gene was preceded in death by his parents.
