Gary Wilson

Gary Glen Wilson, son of Glen and Teleen Wilson, was born January 10, 1940, in Milford, Iowa. He was baptized and confirmed at the Little Sioux Lutheran Church in rural Milford. Gary received his education at the Okoboji Consolidated School, playing varsity basketball as a freshman, summer baseball and raising and showing 4-H Club calves.

After graduating in 1957, Gary worked various jobs including Stylecraft, Syndergaard, Ashland Construction and the Spencer Pack.

In 1960, Gary met the love of his life, Cheryle Meyerdirk and they were married at the Lake Park Methodist Church. They lived in Milford for a few years before moving back to the family homeplace in rural Milford where he worked for Vern Dykstra. He later moved to an acreage near Everly and worked at Harms Implement. In 1965, he bought a new packing house (Wilson Foods) in Cherokee where he for thirty-eight years, until his retirement.

Camping was a family affair and Gary loved shotgun hunting, bow hunting, fishing and ice fishing. He enjoyed cruises, California visits, Disney World and his fishing trips to Minnesota and Canada.

After retirement, Gary and Cheryle built a year-round home at Lost Island and enjoyed living there for twenty-two years. He enjoyed lots of fishing, lake life and making special friendships.

Gary passed away peacefully at his home on August 20, 2025, with his family at his side after suffering three years with many issues of total ankle replacements.

Left to cherish his memory is his wife of nearly sixty-four years, Cheryle Wilson; daughters, Rhonda (Tim) Weiland of Terril and Sheila Welch of Spencer; brother, Jack (Pat) Wilson of Aurelia; grandchildren, Amber (Dale) Boicourt of Johnston, Anthony (Krista) Miller of Cherokee and Brandon (Kaila) Weiland of Woodstock; eleven great-grandchildren, Audrey Norlund, Lance Boicourt, Cayden Peterson, Kael Miller, Hailey Boicourt, Kevin Bock, Kaitlyn Miller, Karson Miller, Klay Miller, Zaidyn Edmundson and Kellan Miller.

Gary was preceded in death by his parents, Glen and Teleen Wilson; in-laws, Eileena and Roscoe Meyerdirk; son-in-law, Christopher Welch; granddaughter, Ashley Miller and many relatives and friends.

There will be no formal services at the request of our beloved one.
