A Funeral Service for Gary Eaton, age 88, of Spirit Lake will be held on Monday, May 4, 2026 at 10:30am at First Presbyterian Church in Spirit Lake. Visitation will take place prior to the service from 9:30-10:30am at the church in Spirit Lake. Interment will be at Lakeview Gardens Cemetery in Okoboji.
Gary passed away on April 29, 2026.
Gary Eaton was born July 21, 1937, in Fort Dodge, Iowa to Bill and Sally Eaton. He attended Fort Dodge High School. He worked as a milkman for Anderson Erickson Dairy and later had a bread route in Fort Dodge. He spent most of his working career as a semitruck driver for Van Diest Chemical Supply Company in Webster City. In his 35-year career, he drove 3.5 million miles without an accident or speeding ticket. He enjoyed working with his wife in their Hallmark business when he wasn’t on the road. In retirement, Gary worked for HyVee in Spirit Lake and Spencer and also drove truck for Stoller Fishery. For fun, Gary enjoyed bowling, tennis, golf, hunting, fishing, and spending time with his family.
Gary is survived by his wife, Paulette “Pauly” Eaton; daughter, Sandra (Dan) Berven of Graettinger, Iowa; daughter, Kim (Kevin) Moulin of Grimes, Iowa; son, Greg (Janelle) Eaton of Eyota, Minnesota; daughter, SueAnn (Doyle) Johnson of Owatonna, Minnesota; grandchildren: Joshua (Katie) Berven, Joseph (Amber) Berven, Abbey Berven, Michael (Maggie) Scherer, Jacob Scherer, Kaitlin (Dustin) Alvine, Kinlei (Josh) Kidman, Megan (Brandon) Hull, Derek Johnson, Drew (Angie) Johnson, Kyle Eaton, Grady Eaton, Mya Johnson; 19 great-grandchildren; extended family and friends.
Gary was preceded in death by his father, William “Bill” Eaton; mother, Selma “Sally” Eaton; brother, Valri “Gene” Eaton; sister, Darleen “Doll” Skatburg; and sons, Jeff Eaton and Bob Scherer.
