Dory Schatz

Private family services will be held for Dory Schatz, age 74, of Spirit Lake.

Dory Susan Schatz, 74, of Spirit Lake, Iowa, passed away on April 30, 2026, at her home.

Dory was born on November 5, 1951, in Spirit Lake, Iowa, to Donald “Pete” Hanson and Mary Ann (Reed) Hanson. She grew up in Spirit Lake and later attended nursing school in Emmetsburg, where she earned her LPN.

On December 14, 1997, Dory was united in marriage to Jim Schatz in Saint Thomas, U.S. Virgin Islands. Together they made their home in Spirit Lake.

Dory was an avid reader who found joy in crocheting and knitting. Above all else, she loved spending time with her family, who were the center of her life.

She is lovingly remembered by her husband, Jim Schatz; her children, John Boetel III (Andrea), Katy Griffin (Jason), and Dan Mears; her siblings, Bonnie Wallace (Merle), Robert Hanson (Tammie), Mike Hanson (Dawn), Dan Hanson (Linda), Donna Dyslin (Paul), and Jeff Hanson; as well as many nieces and nephews.

Dory was preceded in death by her parents, Donald “Pete” and Mary Ann Hanson.
