David Dingel

A Memorial Service for David Dingel, age 84, of Terril will be held on Saturday, July 25, 2026, at 10:30am at the United Methodist Church in Terril. Visitation will take place on Friday, July 24, 2026, from 5:00-7:00pm at the Turner Jenness Funeral Home in Milford.

David Dean Dingel, 84, passed away on July 22, 2026. David was born January 5, 1942, in Sibley, Iowa to Kenneth and Alyce Dingel. Growing up on a farm near Ocheyedan, he attended a one room country school there. In 1954, he moved with his family to a farm south of Terril. He attended school and graduated from Terril High School in 1962. Following graduation, he worked at the Terril Coop Elevator and the State Conservation. In 1968, he started farming in a family corporation with his father, brother and brother-in-law.

On July 18, 1964, he married his high school sweetheart, Linda Willemssen. In 1964, David enlisted in the Army National Guard from Estherville where he served six years. In August 1969, their first daughter, Darci Sue, was born followed by Darilea Ann, born June 1972.

David loved being a farmer and especially loved the livestock. He raised cattle, sheep and had a World Grand Champion stallion which was shown at many quarter horse shows. He was an avid collector of everything and was always moving from one thing to the next. He was a gifted woodworker, operating a cabinet making business and displaying his wood crafts at craft shows for over ten years. David enjoyed driving his ranger around Terril and restoring a ’55 Chevy with his son-in-law.

David was a member of the Terril United Methodist Church where he served on several committees. He was a member of the Dickinson County Fair board for twenty-five years and the Terril Telephone Coop board for ten years. He was an active member of his community serving on the Terril Centennial Committee during their centennial in 1995. He also belonged to the Terril Kiwanis for several years.

Above everything else, David’s children and grandchildren were the love of his life. He also had many close friends whom he always enjoyed being with.

David is survived by his wife of sixty-two years, Linda Dingel; his children, Darci (Lee) Schumacher and Dari (Craig) Fehr; grandchildren, Nichole Clark, Heather (Shawn) Bibler, Jake Schumacher, Joe Schumacher, Kylea Fehr, Aisha Fehr; step-grandchildren, Grant Nielsen, Ben Nielsen, Haley Nielsen, Alivah Bibler, Ryker Bibler and Kaylyn Bibler; great-grandchildren, Jayce Rouse and Leo Gracanin; brother, Doug (Teri) Dingel; brother-in-law, Dennis (Linda) Willemssen and several nieces and nephews.

David was preceded in death by his parents, Kenneth and Alyce Dingel; sisters, Diane Trojahn and Deborah Johnson; brothers-in-law, Orlin Trojahn and Tom Johnson; father and mother-in-law, Claude and LaVonne Willemssen.
