David Bastman was born on December 2, 1958, in Spirit Lake, Iowa, to John and Bertha Bastman. From a young age, David learned the values of hard work and dedication by helping on the family farm and leaving school early to support his family. These qualities stayed with him throughout his life. He began working at Arco Dehydrating at a young age, but his greatest dedication was always to his family. On December 8, 1989, David married his best friend and the love of his life, Tammy. Together, they built a life and welcomed three daughters: Crystal, Sylvia and Angel. He was later blessed with nine grandchildren who became the light of his life.
David was a devoted husband, a proud father, a loving grandfather, and a loyal friend. He spent countless hours playing games with his grandchildren, watching shows and movies with his wife and kids, and always finding time to lend a helping hand — whether to a neighbor, a friend or a stranger in need.
After the tragic loss of his youngest daughter, Angel, in December 2020, David experienced deep sorrow to his heart which contributed to health challenges in the years that followed. Even after surviving a major heart attack in the fall of 2024, David continued to fight bravely until the Lord called him home on May 29, 2025.
He is survived by his wife of over 35 years, Tammy; daughters, Crystal (Adam) and Sylvia (Justin); and his nine grandchildren: Madison, Brandy, Luke, Megan, Stormy, Adam Jr., Aria, Asher and Aurora. He is preceded in death by many loved ones, including his daughter Angel.
Though his journey here has ended, we take comfort in knowing he has begun a new journey with his Lord and reunited with his daughter, Angel. This is not a goodbye, but "until we see you again," David will forever be in our hearts.
