Darwin John Rosener was born June 16, 1942, in Maple River, Iowa - son of Henry J. and Frances (Rowe) Rosener. From his earliest days on the Iowa prairie, he carried the hallmarks of his remarkable life: an honest work ethic, a deep love of the land, and a warm, steady heart that all who knew him could count on.
He graduated from Wall Lake High School, and on March 7, 1964, Darwin united his life with Clarice Schroeder - beginning a love story spanning more than 62 beautiful years. They built their home and family in Harlan and Ida Grove before settling permanently in Spirit Lake in 1968, a community Darwin would call home for the rest of his life.
A skilled building contractor, Darwin built a lasting legacy across Northwest Iowa - helping organize the Northwest Iowa Home Builders Association and proudly serving as its president. He also played a meaningful role in rebuilding the Queen, Lake Okoboji's beloved excursion boat, helping restore a community treasure to her rightful place on the water.
Away from work, Darwin was most at home outdoors - a passionate hunter and fisherman who found peace on the water and in Iowa’s open fields. He loved snowmobiling, shooting skeet and pistols, spending winters in Texas, and rounds of golf with good company. A devoted sports fan, he faithfully cheered for the Minnesota Vikings, Iowa Hawkeyes, and Indiana Fever.
But above all else, Darwin was a family man - a devoted husband to Clarice, a proud father, a beloved grandfather and great-grandfather. His laugh was genuine, his handshake firm, his word unbreakable. He gave those he loved the gift of his time, his wisdom, and his unwavering presence.
Darwin passed peacefully on June 20, 2026, at Avera McKennan Hospital in Sioux Falls, SD, at eighty-four years of age. He is survived by his wife, Clarice; son Scot (Sabra) Rosener; daughter-in-law Michelle Rosener; grandchildren Maxwell (Mickayla), Jacob, (Haylie) Rosener, Mia (Dallas) Mienders, Sydney Rosener, Gus Rosener, and Valerie Rosener; and great-grandchildren Charleston Mienders and Archer Mienders.
He was preceded in death by his son Mark Rosener; brother Marvin Rosener; parents Henry and Frances Rosener; parents-in-law Wilbur and Gertrude Schroeder; and numerous aunts, uncles, and cousins who welcomed him home.
