Carley Leitch

May 16, 1926 — February 7, 2020

A memorial service for Carley Leitch, age 93, of Spirit Lake, will be held Monday, February 10, 2020 at 3:00pm at Turner Jenness Funeral Home in Spirit Lake. Visitation will begin at 2:00pm at the funeral home. Interment will be at Okoboji Cemetery at a later date. Carley Lois Leitch, the daughter of Laura (Cole) and Paul Kladstrup, was born May 16, 1926 in Sac City, Iowa. She attended Lake Park Public School. On October 3, 1942, Carley was married to Leon Leitch in Milford, Iowa. After they moved to Spirit Lake, Iowa, Carley became one of Berkley’s first employees and remained working there for forty-seven years. She was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Tops, Catholic Daughters of America and Center Lake Club. Carley loved quilting, walking, traveling, singing and was an accomplished painter. She also enjoyed having coffee and visiting with her many friends. Carley often could be found reading or working on her daily crossword puzzle in order to keep her mind sharp. Her family was very important to her and she remained a loving and caring mother and grandmother until the end. The last three years, Carley lived with her daughter, Nancy, in Spirit Lake. Carley passed away February 7, 2020 at Lakes Regional Healthcare in Spirit Lake at ninety-three years of age. She is survived by her four children, Jim Leitch of Seaside, Oregon, John Leitch of Dallas, Texas, Jeanne Whitacre of Algona, Iowa and Nancy Jensen (Tim) of Spirit Lake, Iowa; twelve grandchildren and seventeen great-grandchildren. Carley was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Leon in 2001; daughter, Karen in 2015; four brothers; one half-brother and one half-sister.
