Barbara Altena

A funeral service for Barbara Altena, 68 years old of Arnolds Park, Iowa, will be held at 10:30 am, Monday, June 30, 2025 at First Presbyterian Church in Spirit Lake. Private family graveside service will be at Memorial Gardens Cemetery in Sioux Center, Iowa.

Barbara Jean Altena, daughter of Ken and Vivian (Moeller) Bultman, was born on September 14, 1956, in Hawarden, Iowa. She passed away on June 13, 2025, at Spencer Municipal Hospital, at sixty-eight years of age.

Barb was united in marriage to Stanthon “Ralph” Altena on August 28, 2007, in Orange City, Iowa. Throughout her career, she worked in the banking industry and was employed by both Wells Fargo Bank and First State Bank. Beyond her professional life, Barb was active in her community. She was a Master Gardener and a member of the Phoenix Zoo Auxiliary. She enjoyed gardening, quilting, golfing, card club, and boating. Her greatest joy came with her role as a grandmother and cherished time spent with her family and friends. Barb and Ralph attended the First Presbyterian Church in Spirit Lake.

She is survived by her husband, Ralph Altena; her children, Jennifer Anacker (Rob), Sara Blanco (Redgie), and Dan Anacker (Zizina); her stepchildren, Shawna Kleinwolterink (Kelly), Shelley Rus (Mark), Steve Altena (Molly), Paul Hanney (Amber), Rob Hanney (Lorna), Laila Grey (Stewart), Adam Hanney (Olivia) and Tara Ramos (Mario); 21 grandchildren, 3 great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews. She is also survived by her siblings, Bonnie Kusler (Ben), Bruce Bultman, Beth Schlumbohm (Judd), Brian Bultman and sister-in-law, Nelvia Weg (Paul).

Barb was preceded in death by her parents, Ken and Vivian Bultman and her in-laws, Senard and Pearl Altena.
