Jerry Hentges
Funeral: Monday, December 27, 2010 at 10:30am at St. Mary's Catholic Church. Burial: St. Margarets Cemetery, Spirit Lake Jerome Francis Hentges was born October 1, 1951 in Waterloo, Iowa, the son of Francis Jerome Hentges and Myrna Mae Costigan. He attended St. Mary’s Catholic Grade School in New Hampton and graduated in 1969 from New Hampton Community High School. Jerry attended Ellsworth Community College from 1969-1971 and the University of Northern Iowa from 1974-1976. He received his Masters Degree from Drake University. On June 15, 1974, Jerry was united in marriage to Paula Sue Anderson in New Hampton, Iowa. The family lived in Holton, Kansas from 1976-1978, Lake Mills, Iowa from 1978-1983 and in Lake Park, Iowa until 1991. The family then moved to Spirit Lake, Iowa. Jerry worked as the Spirit Lake Middle School Counselor and Athletic Director. He also coached in the middle school and was a drivers-ed instructor. He was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Spirit Lake, Pheasants Forever as well as the Iowa High School Athletic Association. Jerry enjoyed pheasant hunting with his German Shorthair, Annie, pontoon riding with his family, fishing, riding his Harley and trips to South Dakota (Deadwood and Sturgis). Jerry passed away December 22, 2010 at Lakes Regional Healthcare in Spirit Lake, Iowa at fifty-nine years of age. He is survived by his wife, Paula of Spirit Lake; three children, Tera (Ben) O’Malley of Chicago, Illinois, Leah (Jacob) Cruze of Minneapolis, Minnesota and Jenna Hentges at the University of Iowa; his parents, Francis and Myrna Hentges; two sisters, Kathleen (Mark) Timlin of Lawler, Iowa and Colleen (Paul) Kruger of New Hampton, Iowa; one brother, Thomas (Carol) Hentges of Eagan, Minnesota; three nieces and one nephew. Jerry was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents, Harold and Kathleen Costigan and paternal grandparents, Frank and Anna Hentges.
