Letita Lawson

Letitia (Northey) Lawson was called home to be with her Lord on February 22, 2009.

Carrie Letitia Northey was born to Carrie and Albert Northey on April 10, 1896 in Okoboji, Township, near Milford, Iowa. She was married to William John Lawson on January 1, 1919. They were blessed with four children, Ruth Draper (Darrel), Jean Kutz (David), Elwin, and Marshall (Ann). There are 11 grandchildren, 28 great-grandchildren, and 5 great-great grandchildren.

She was a lifelong resident of Dickinson County and she and John farmed for fifty years in Excelsior Township until they retired and moved to Milford. She was a member of Excelsior Methodist Church from her youth and taught Sunday School and Bible School, touching the lives of numerous children. Many of those have visited her and recounted memories of her teachings. When she and John moved to Milford they became active members of Union Memorial Church.

Letitia loved her family, community, church, schools, her country and the world. She was very proud of the fact that she voted in the first election after women were granted that privilege, and exercised that right in every election after that. She loved life and the relationships in it. She firmly believed that the future of our world lies with the youth. She took great joy in visiting Okoboji Elementary as part of their Character Counts program and looked forward to visits from the school children when they delivered her Meals on Wheels.
