Charles Ernest Schroeder was born November 11, 1925 at Milford, Iowa to Ernest and Cora Johnston Schroeder. He attended Milford High School.

On September 15, 1947 he married Mary Lou Yaeger at Spencer. They farmed east of Milford. Later he worked for Northwest Die Cast and the City of Spencer. Interests were hunting, fishing, woodworking and cards. He was a fan of University of Iowa football and basketball, as well as the Vikings and Twins.

Charles died November 7, 2009 at the Milford Nursing Center.

Surviving is his wife, Mary; sons, Mark of Paullina, Ernie and his wife, Joanne of Watertown, SD and Doug and his wife, Pam, of Queens Creek, Arizona; 13 grandchildren, 17 great grandchildren; and 2 sisters, Lillian Arends and her husband, Hank, and Lavonne Van Es and her husband, Lloyd. He was preceded in death by his parents, daughter, Nancy and 2 sisters, Ernadine and Darlene.
