Betty Engel was born October 1, 1958 in Wagner, South Dakota, the daughter of Edward and Kathryn (Koppen) Koupal. She graduated from Spirit Lake High School. Betty worked as a department manager at WalMart for many years. She was united in marriage to Bryan Engel on February 16, 2002.

Betty passed away November 4, 2009 at her home in Spirit Lake, Iowa at fifty-one years of age.

She is survived by her husband, Bryan Engel of Spirit Lake; mother, Kathryn Koupal of Spirit Lake; daughter, Amy Hansen and her husband, Matt of the United Kingdom; daughter, Jenny Clausen and her husband, Adam of Milford; son, Brad Engel of Marshall, MN; sisters, Debra Zahren of Lake Park, JoAnn Dierking of Spirit Lake; brother, Tom Koupal and his wife, Diane of Adrian, MI; grandchildren, James Hansen, Spencer and Monte Matthews, Brady and Katelyn Clausen as well as other family and friends.

Betty was preceded in death by her father, Edward Koupal; sister, Connie Kelly; brother-in-law, Gib Zahren.

The relentless dedication to her family and friends will never be forgotten in the hearts of many.
