Alta “Ollie” Thompson

Funeral services for Alta “Ollie” Claire Thompson will be 2:00 PM Saturday, August 29, 2009 at Epworth Chapel, located at the United Methodist Camp in Spirit Lake, Iowa with June Goldman presiding. Interment will be at Spirit Lake Memory Gardens in Spirit Lake. Visitation will be held Friday from 3:00-6:00pm at the Turner Funeral Home in Spirit Lake.

Alta “Ollie” Claire Thompson was born June 28, 1918 in Grand Meadow, Iowa, the daughter of Harvey and Edna (Bammer) Harrison. She was raised and educated in Grand Meadow, graduating from Grand Meadow High School. She then obtained her teaching degree from Morningside College in Sioux City.

In 1944 she married Charles Dale Thompson in San Francisco, CA. She taught school at Zearing, Hornick, and Sioux City. The couple retired to the Lakes Region in 1980.

Ollie passed away on August 24, 2009 at her home in Monarch Cove at ninety-one years of age.

She enjoyed swimming, reading, solitaire and crossword puzzles.

She is survived by two daughters, Terrie Thompson and her husband, Tim Jeffery of Madison, WI and Barbara Olesen of Plano, TX; one son, Dennis Charles Thompson and his wife, Becky of Albuquerque, NM; twelve grandchildren and five great grandchildren.

Ollie was preceded in death by her husband, Dale in 1999; one brother, Wayne; four sisters, Jean, Charlotte, Helen, and Catherine; John Olesen, her son in law, also preceded her in death.
