SPIRIT LAKE, IOWA  Funeral services for Scott David Van Roekel, 43, of Spirit Lake and formerly of Cherokee will be 10:30 AM Saturday, July 26, 2008 at Good News Community Church in Okoboji, Iowa with Rev. John Messer officiating.  Interment will be in Lakeview Gardens in Spirit Lake

Scott David Van Roekel was born March 7, 1965 in Honolulu, Hawaii, the son of David and Carol (Roetman) Van Roekel.  He was raised and educated in Cherokee, Iowa, graduating from Cherokee High School.

Scott loved being a father and being in the outdoors, especially hunting, fishing and gardening.  He had a great sense of humor and was known by everyone for his great one-liners.  He was a skilled carpenter; most recently, he was a custom cabinet maker in Arizona.

Scott passed away Tuesday, July 22, 2008 at his home in Spirit Lake at forty-three years of age.

He is survived by his parents, David and Carol Van Roekel of Spirit Lake; sons, Nicholas Brooks of Latimer, Iowa and Hunter Van Roekel of Two Rivers, Wisconsin; brother, Steven Van Roekel and his wife Carrie and their children Katherine and Elizabeth, of Seattle, Washington; sister, Susan Brooks and her children Nathan, Sarah and Matthew of Spirit Lake, Iowa; several aunts, uncles, nieces nephews, cousins and many friends.
