Robert Worrick

Robert Lester Worrick was born in Ocheyedan, Iowa on October 2, 1933 to George Lester and Ruth Isabelle (Boyd) Worrick. Bob was the third child of five, two brothers and two sisters. Bob attended Ocheyedan School and obtained his high school diploma while in the service. Bob joined the United States Air Force in 1950 and was honorably discharged in 1955.

Bob married Aleene Hensley on April 21, 1956 at the United Methodist Church in Lake Park and made their home in Lake Park, Iowa. Bob and Aleene have three children, Dara, Robert and Richard Worrick.

He was a member the American Legion Post 371 in Lake Park for fifty-three years, serving as Commander and currently Sgt-At-Arms. He served twenty-five years on the Lake Park Fire Department, four years as Fire Chief. Bob also served three terms on the Lake Park park board. He worked for the Harris Lake Park Schools as head custodian for 29 years as well as 4 years at Stylecraft in the maintenance department. Bob and Aleene owned and operated the Lake Park Laundromat and Car Wash for thirty years.

Bob, Leon Goodell, Don Goodell and Bob Herbert worked together submitting water samples for out of Silver Lake for Lake Side Laboratory for testing for ten years. Bob was also a member of the Lake Park Sportsman’s Club.

Bob enjoyed nature, hunting, fishing, watching sports on T.V., being called on to repair anything mechanical, playing cards and shooting pool with his friends and fellow veterans. Another interest of Bob’s was to help promote the Car Show for Farmers Appreciation Days. Although retired, Bob accepted a lawn care position with the City of Lake Park, mowing the Senior Center, three ball diamonds and the campsite on the south side of Silver Lake.
Bob succumbed to the effects of brain and lung cancer on April 8, 2008 at seventy-four years of age at the VA Medical Center Hospice Unit, Sioux Falls, SD.

He is survived by his wife of fifty-three years, Aleene; daughter, Dara and Dan Retting of Key Largo, Florida; sons, Robert Worrick of Orange City, Iowa, Richard and Vivian Worrick of Lake Park, Iowa; two granddaughters, Lyndi Webb and her husband, Patrick, of Milford, Iowa and Melanie Deets of Greensboro, North Carolina.; three great-grandchildren, Thomas Webb, Jackson Webb and Madison Thacker.

Bob was preceded in death by his parents, Lester and Ruth Worrick and a brother, Harold Worrick.
