Robert B. Thurman

BobRobert Byral Thurman was born March 28, 1933 in Mt. Ayr, Iowa, the son of George and Tanzy (Scott) Thurman.  In 1952, Robert enlisted in the United States Navy and was honorably discharged in 1956.

Bob was united in marriage to Phyllis Hale on June 9, 1954.  Bob was a father of three and a father of all his family.  He enjoyed camping, computers and most of all he loved spending time with his kids, grandkids and great grandkids.

He was a long time employee of Hamilton TV and Appliance in Spirit Lake.  Bob enjoyed his time in Texas as well as spending time with family in Hatfield, Missouri.  He spent many hours searching into the family tree.

Bob passed away on February 15, 2008 at the Lakes Regional Healthcare in Spirit Lake, Iowa at seventy-four years of age. 

He is survived by his wife, Phyllis; daughters, Brenda and Lee Bendixen of Spirit Lake and Julie Laue of Spirit Lake; son, Terry and Nora Thurman of Spencer, IA; five grandchildren, four great-grandchildren and eagerly anticipating the arrival of twin boy great-grandchildren; siblings, Bertha and Marlyn Gilbert of Earlham, Iowa, Arlene and Jim Pearce of Mount Ayr, Iowa, Betty Jo and Melvin Hillard of Bethany, Missouri, Donald (Butch) and Diane Thurman of Eagleville, Missouri, Norma Jean and Robert (Bud) Whitacker of Ridgeway, Missouri, Patricia Roe of Missouri and Connie Lawson of Missouri; many nephews, nieces, great-nephews and great-nieces.

Bob was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Peggy Gibson; brother, Charles Thurman; grandson, Jacob Thurman.
