Jeanne Marjorie Guritz
Jeanne Marjorie Guritz was born to Frank and Anna (Van Lent) Peters on March 31, 1925 in Sioux City, Iowa. Jeanne attended country school in Emerson, Nebraska for first and second grades. She then attended boarding school in Emerson until 7th grade. The family moved to Doon, Iowa where she attended country school through the eighth grade. She continued her education through the tenth grade in Alvord, Iowa, eleventh grade in Larchwood, Iowa and completed high school in 1942 at North Superior High School with a graduating class of six.
She went on to business college in Sioux Falls, South Dakota for one year and then went to work at Iowa Trust and Savings Bank in Estherville, Iowa. She met Art while living in Spirit Lake and they were married on June 6, 1945. Art was in the service and they lived in Williamsburg, Virginia for seven months and then returned to Spirit Lake. They moved to their farm in 1946 and began their family of five children.
Jeanne moved to town in 1985. She loved to sew, garden and do word puzzles. She was active in church at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Spirit Lake.
Jeanne passed away on September 25, 2008 at the Milford Nursing Center in Milford, Iowa at eighty-three years of age.
She is survived by her children, Donna Guritz of Westminster, California, Kathryn Guritz of Emmetsburg, Iowa and Mark Guritz and his wife Becki of Spirit Lake, Iowa
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Arthur Guritz, daughter, Rita Guritz and son, James Guritz.
