Seasons/Prospects
Going along a dusty gravel road,
on which a horse carriage is coming towards me.
The dark veil, the black hat,
even the striking of the hooves,
I remain standing and raise my right hand to greet.
Also today, in the middle of summer,
my body is full of thoughts
of the changing of the seasons.
Where may they be, since the silence
connects with the more lowly set sky?
Presumably, I’ll likely write with ink again.
The scraping noise of the feather,
the growing words on ruled paper,
as if I was standing in front of this sketch,
which a friend gave me before departure.
A frozen pond, a few unclear tree tops,
and beyond, over the bare anticipating
snow-covered hill, a thin, almost vibrating line
under the cloudy heavens.
