Wilbur Glenn Hanson was born October 18, 1930 on a farm north of Alpha, MN to Charlie and Dorthea Dunker Hanson.  He was their third son.  When he was four months old they moved to the Loon Lake Farm in Minneota Township.  As a young boy, Wilbur worked for Bill Thompson’s Boat Livery and Leon Allen on Shore Acres, and later, at Wieck Implement.  He entered the US Army on October 18, 1951, serving seventeen months in Germany before receiving an Honorable Discharge in September. 1953. Wilbur then went to work for Leon Jacobs on his farm.

On October 2, 1954 he married Barbara Wheeler in Jackson, MN.  They had three children, Bruce who lives on the home place, Bill who works for the Spirit Lake Water Dept. and Nancy Michelson who works as a nurse at Hilltop Care Center.

The family moved to a farm between Big Spirit and Loon Lake on Sept. 18, 1956, where he lived until his death on January 14, 2007 at seventy-six years of age.

He has been semi-retired for several years, helping Bruce in the spring and fall on the farm.  His greatest joys were his children, his granddaughters and his garden.

Left to mourn are his wife, Barb, of fifty-two years; sons, Bruce and Bill; daughter, Nancy Michelson (Greg) and granddaughters Allison and Katie Michelson and Sarah Hanson; brothers, Donald Hanson, Pete Hanson(Mary)  of Spirit Lake, Robert Hanson (Trena) of Albert Lea, MN, Dennis Hanson of Jackson, MN; sister, Lois Fisher (David) of North Aroura, IL; numerous nieces and nephews.

Preceding him in death were his father and mother, sisters, Marilyn Buchanan and Grace Johnson and brother, Charles Hanson
