Vivian A. Caskey

Vivian Adeline Caskey was born on August 4, 1918 in Spirit Lake, IA, the daughter of Rasmas and Ida (Bettin) Thompson. On January 10, 1936, she was united in marriage to Howard Caskey in Spirit Lake. In her earlier years, Vivian worked as a housekeeper, picked strawberries and cooked and waitressed at Vick’s Corner while her husband worked in the station. She then worked over thirty years at Stoller Fisheries in Spirit Lake.

Vivian and Howard enjoyed spending time together traveling to his Farm Tiling conventions. She enjoyed spending time with her many brothers and sisters as well. Vivian enjoyed going to wrestling matches and in later years loved sharing her love of wrestling with her great grandson, Tyler Dean. At home she spent her time reading, playing cards, gardening and spending time with her family. She enjoyed cooking for the family especially Thanksgiving and Christmas when she brought the family together.

Vivian passed away on February 24, 2007 at her home in Spirit Lake at eighty-eight years of age.

She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Freeda and Tom Owen; granddaughter and husband, Kara and Greg Dean, granddaughter, Debbie Wall; five great grandchildren, Monica, Tommy, James, Amber and Tyler; one great-great-grandson, Austin; sister, Cleora Pederson; sister-in-law, Norma Remillard; nieces and nephews.

Vivian was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Howard, seven sisters and four brothers.
