Susan R. Bakke Susan Renee Bakke was born November 18, 1959, the daughter of Ronald and Carol (Werkhoven) Bakke at Ft. Hood, Texas. She moved with her family to many different military bases in the US and Germany. She moved to Spirit Lake in 1975. Susan’s main interests were her sons Nathan and Nikolaus, as well as enjoying movies and planting flowers in the spring. She enjoyed traveling, especially to Las Vegas. She also enjoyed going to different restaurants with her mother. As a young girl, Susan always asked for a horse for Christmas. However, since the family moved from one military base to another, she usually got a stick horse for Christmas. Susan was involved in a car accident which claimed the life of her son Nikolaus and caused her to have many physical problems thereafter. Susan passed away at her residence Tuesday, January 23, 2007 at forty-seven years of age. She is survived by her mother, Carol, brother, Paul and son, Nathan.
