Rosella D. Harms Rosella Darlene Harms, daughter of
John and Elsie (Halbeck) Runge was born on April 10, 1929 in Sibley,
Iowa. After the death of her parents at an early age, she lived with
foster parents, Herman and Hannah Stamp in the May City area. She
was confirmed at St. John’s Lutheran Church in May City, and
graduated from Hartley High School.
Rosella was united in marriage to Donald Harms on January 4, 1947 at Spirit Lake, Iowa. They had three children, Jerome, Randy (who died in infancy) and Wendy. The family made their home in May City, before moving to a farm in rural May City. Donald and Rosella moved to Silver Lake in Lake Park in 1975 and Rosella later moved into Lake Park. Rosella was a farmwife and waitress for many years. She loved spending time with her family, tending to her flowers and feeding her birds, rabbits and squirrels. She also enjoyed her large stuffed bear collection. Rosella was an avid bingo player in recent years. She was a former member of St. John’s Lutheran Church and was active in Ladies Aide and other organizations. On June 19, 2007, Rosella passed away at Lakes Regional Healthcare in Spirit Lake, Iowa, after a short illness, at seventy-eight years of age. She was preceded in death by her husband Donald, son, Randy, parents, John & Elsie Runge, foster parents, Herman & Hannah Stamp, brothers, Elmer & Herman Runge and sister, Pearl Adolf. Left to cherish her memory are her children, Jerome Harms of Lake Park, and Wendy Centner and her husband Harland of May City; grandsons, Chad Centner of Archer, Iowa and Shawn Centner, his fiancée, Keri Strubbe and her children, Dakota and Damon, of Archer; sisters-in-law Clarice Harms, Leola Harms, Vioal Harms, Virginia Harms and Margaret Boom; nieces and nephews, other family and friends.
