Phyllis Kiner

Phyllis Ann Kiner was born march 16, 1937 at Ruthven, Iowa, the daughter of Halver and Anna Rierson. She was raised and educated in Graettinger, graduating from Graettinger High School.

Phyllis was united in marriage to Duane Alvin Kiner, Jr. on August 11, 1955 at Lost Island Lutheran Church in Ruthven. The couple moved to Spirit lake in 1962, where they raised their children. Phyllis was a talented seamstress and did custom drapery.

Phyllis was a member of the VFW Auxiliary. She enjoyed motorcycle rides, camping, sewing and loved caring for animals, especially cats. She enjoyed visiting and spending time with family and friends, often baking for them. She was known as “Mom” to anyone and everyone. She was a very loving and giving person, always putting others needs before her own.

Phyllis passed away Sunday, January 28, 2007 at her home in Spirit Lake at sixty-nine years of age.

She is survived by her husband, Duane Kiner, Jr. of Spirit Lake; children, Ruth Gerdes (Ray) of Gardner, Kansas, Becky Groves (Ken) of McCook, Nebraska, Bonnie Schafer of Lakefield, Minnesota, Dale Kiner of Spirit Lake, Patty Galvin (Shane) of Lake Park, Penny Weaver (Steve) of Spirit Lake; nineteen grandchildren and eight great grandchildren and more on the way. She is also survived by her mother and father-in-law, Duane, Sr. and Opal Kiner; sisters-in-law Sharon Edmonds, Mary Kiner and Judy Kiner; brothers-in-law Ron Kiner and David Kiner and Irvin Rierson (Verda) and Ann Rierson.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Halver and Anna, daughter, Ivy Serck, grandson Joshua Schafer, son-in-law Gery Vancura and sister-in-law Karen Prather.
