Melvin Douglas Bolt was born in Storm Lake, Iowa on October 23, 1938 to Claude M. and Elizabeth M. Bolt. The family moved to the Okoboji, Iowa area in the mid-forties, and Mel attended and graduated from Arnolds Park High School. Following graduation, he served in the U.S. Navy, after which he went to work in the oil fields in Oklahoma.

Melvin Douglas Bolt passed away at the Avera McKennan Hospital in Sioux Falls, SD on February 11, 2007, following a lengthy illness.

Mel is preceded in death by his parents, Claude and Elizabeth Bolt. Those left to mourn his death are his brother and sister-in-law, Duane C. and Debra Bolt of Hewitt, TX; two nephews, two nieces and several great-nephews and nieces, who reside in Washington D.C., Dallas, TX area and Lincoln, NE.
