Kathryn M. Lage

Kathryn Marie Lage was born to Albert and Mary Askeland at Spencer, Iowa on July 15, 1925.  She was a graduate of Milford Community School.

On November 23, 1947 she was united in marriage to Donald G. Lage at Milford, Iowa.  She was a social reporter for the Milford Mail and worked at the Farmers Cooperative Elevator as a bookkeeper.  She loved helping her “older friends” with their chores – cooking, cleaning or just visiting with them.

Katie Lage passed away Sunday, September 16, 2007 at the Spencer Municipal Hospital.

She was a member of the First Lutheran Church, a fifty two year member of the Milford American Legion Auxiliary.  She made towels for the elementary staff for Christmas for many years.  Katie enjoyed gardening and canning the produce.

Katie was the self-proclaimed unofficial Mayor of Sixth Street.  She said she wanted to be a weatherman when she grew up because they were paid regardless whether they got the forecast right or not.  She enjoyed the outdoors and loved being with people and joking around with them.

Katie loved to cook big meals – holidays were always fun time for her.  She was famous for her scalloped corn and chocolate refrigerator pie.  She looked forward to a Christmas time ride to see all the beautiful outdoor Christmas decorations.

Left to cherish her memory are her daughter, Sandy Alexander and her husband, Bill of Milford, and their three children, John of Omaha, NE Kristi of Colorado Springs, CO and Brian of Manhattan, KS; son, Tom Lage and his wife, Mary Rose of Cedar Rapids, IA, children Abby Leland and her husband, Hunter, and their son, Quinn of Cedar Rapids and Tommy Lage of Ames, IA.  Survivors also include her sister, Margaret Svendsen of Milford as well as many nieces, nephews and friends.
