John A. Nehman
John “Jack” Nehman was born November 18, 1913 in the Fonda, Iowa, area, in Calhoun County. He attended rural school and Immanuel Lutheran School in Pomeroy, Iowa. He was baptized and confirmed in the Missouri Synod Lutheran Church.
On April 12, 1936, Jack was united in marriage to Margaret Ausborn. They made their home and farmed in the Fonda area until Jack’s retirement in 1976, at which time they moved to West Okoboji.
Jack was a member of the Immanuel Lutheran Church in Spirit Lake. His hobbies were gardening, fishing and playing cards.
Mr. Nehman died Wednesday, January 3, 2007 at the Hilltop Care Center in Spirit Lake where he had been a resident since November of this past year.
Survivors include a daughter, Mardy Sams, of Otho, Iowa; son, Noel Nehman (Kathy) of Fonda, Iowa; five grandchildren, twelve great-grandchildren and a great-great-grandson. He is also survived by his good friend and companion, Helen Roth of Arnolds Park, Iowa.
He was preceded in death by his wife Margaret, his parents, five brothers, two sisters and a grandson.
