Jack R. Boers

Jack Robert Boers was the second child born to John and Ethel (Calkins) Boers on June 1, 1917 in Dickinson County. He attended school at Milford.

Jack began painting houses after he was out of school and continued until World War II. He joined the Army on May 15, 1943 and served until his discharge in December of 1945.

He fought in the military campaigns of Northern France, Ardennes, Rhineland and Central Europe. After returning home from the service, Jack returned to his occupation as a painter.

On December 1, 1946, Jack married Lillian R. Dick. They made their home in Arnolds Park.

Mr. Boers passed away Monday, March 12, 2007 at the Iowa Veterans Home in Marshalltown at the age of eighty-nine years, two months and twenty-one days.

He was a member of the Light of the Lakes Friends Church.

Jack is survived by two brothers, Marvin Boers and his wife, Bonnie of Healdsburg, CA, Harold (Butch) Boers and his wife, Bonnie of Milford, IA; two sisters, Junella Vinyard of Boulder, CO, and Ruth Thompson of Richmond, VA. He will be missed by many nieces, nephews and friends.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Lillian, parents, two sisters, Alta Jane Van Derwalker, Myrna Rubes; and one brother, Robert Boers.
