Helen K. Weaver
Helen Kathleen Weaver was born February 20, 1912 in Pocahontas
County, Iowa the daughter of William and Elizabeth (Weldinger) Derrickson.
Her earlier years were spent in West Bend, Iowa until her family
moved to Lake Park. She graduated from Lake Park High School in
1930.
Helen was united in marriage to Harry “Shorty” Weaver
on March 15, 1934 in Worthington, Minnesota. The couple made their
home in Lake Park. The couple were foster parents in the 1940’s
& 50’s. They adopted their daughter, Ivon, in 1953 after
having had her since she was an infant.
Helen was a member of the United Methodist Church in Lake Park.
She was also a member of Rebekah Lodge and the American Legion Auxiliary.
She enjoyed fishing, bowling, knitting, quilting, gardening, cooking
and playing cards. She took in ironing and cleaned lake homes for
families, which became life-long friends.
Helen passed away Monday, May 28, 2007 at Good Samaritan Care Center
in Forest City at ninety-five years of age.
She is survived by her daughter, Ivon Tokheim and her husband Tom,
of Buffalo Center, Iowa; grandchildren, Sara Droessler and her husband
Jim, of Bancroft, Iowa, Amos Tokheim and his wife Kristy, of Mankato,
Minnesota, Elizabeth Callow and her husband Jacob, of Forest City,
and Deborah Jesse of New Hartford; great grandchildren, Emma Tokheim,
Nicole, Jessica and Megan Callow, Madison and Ethan Jesse; several
nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Shorty Weaver, sisters,
Rosa Salisbury and Frances Thorn and brother, Donald Derrickson.
