Gary Leslie Wells was the eleventh child of thirteen born to Nile and Ida (Omvig) Wells. He was born at Spirit Lake, Iowa on July 12, 1936. Gary spent most of his life in Dickinson County. He lived in Phoenix, Arizona for two years as a teenager.

Gary worked in general construction and was a heavy equipment operator.

His family was his central interest in his life. He liked horses and enjoyed being around children.

Gary passed away Monday, July 2, 2007, unexpectedly at his home in Spirit Lake. He was 70 years of age.

Left to cherish his memory are his two sons: Leslie and his children: Mike, Blaine, Justus and Emily; Richard and his children Mitch, Montana and Nakoma; one daughter Kay and her children: Wendy, Charity and Brandy, all of Gillett Grove, and fourteen great grandchildren. Surviving also are three sisters, Myrtle Geiser of Phoenix, AZ, Ilene DeLong of Torrance, CA and Linda Wells of Spirit Lake, IA; and five brothers, Horace Wells of Ankeny,IA Don Wells of Spirit Lake, IA Robert Wells of Des Moines, IA, Max Wells of Hereford, TX and Lynn Wells of Spirit Lake, IA.

He was preceded in death by his parents Nile and Ida Wells, brothers, Walter and Nile, and sisters, Myrna Chaffin and Mary Free.
