Fern B. Senn Fern Senn was born October 10, 1918 in Harris, Iowa the daughter of Delbert and Florence (Smith) Morfitt. She was raised and educated in Harris, graduating from Harris High School in 1935. On March 4, 1938, Fern was united in marriage to Hans F. Senn in Ocheyedan, Iowa. The couple made their home in rural Harris, where they farmed until 1958 when they moved to a farm northeast of Spirit Lake. Upon retirement in 1977, they moved into Spirit Lake. Fern was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church in Spirit Lake, where she was active in Lutheran Church Women, Lutheran Women’s Missionary League and was a Sunday School Teacher for several years. She was also active in the American Legion Auxiliary and the Spirit Lake Township Friendship Club. She loved her family and loved spending time with them. She had a great love of music and the great outdoors which could be seen in the special paintings she produced through the years. She was also a gifted cake decorator. Fern passed away Wednesday, April 4, 2007 at Hilltop Care Center in Spirit Lake at eighty-eight years of age. She is survived by her children Shirley Finnern and her husband Gordon of Sioux Valley, & John Senn and his wife Naomi of Spirit Lake. She is also survived by her grandchildren Randy & Mary Finnern & their children Kyle & Rachel; Scott & Julie Finnern & their children Michael & Matthew; Duane & Sue Vander Veen & their children Stacy, Derek & Cody; Dale & Jodie Sandbulte & their children Jeffrey & Jessica; Jon & Deb Brekke & their children Brent & Amanda; Dale & Kim Heide & their children Heather & Austin; other family and friends.
