Evelyn J. Boelter

Evelyn J. Boelter was born August 4, 1920 in Estherville, Iowa the daughter of Joseph and Florence (Byrne) Prendergast. She was raised and educated in Sioux Falls, South Dakota, graduating from Cathedral High School.

Evelyn was united in marriage to Leslie W. Boelter on November 21, 1942 at Fort Meade, Maryland. Upon Les’ return from the service, the couple made their home in Sioux Falls, and Early, Iowa before moving to Spirit Lake in 1958.

Evelyn was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Spirit Lake. She was active in the Catholic Daughters of America and the funeral guild. She kept active in her children’s lives as an assistant Girl Scout Leader, Brownie Leader and Cub Scout Den Mother. She enjoyed knitting, crossword puzzles, reading, playing cards and ballroom dancing. Her family, her faith in God and being 100% Irish were very important to her.

Evelyn passed away Wednesday July 11, 2007 at Northwest Iowa Health Center in Sheldon, Iowa at eighty-six years of age.

She was preceded in death by her husband Les, granddaughter, Lesley Vevang, son-in-law, Tim Vevang, brothers-in-law, Ken, Cliff and Bud Boelter, Vernon Riley and Carl Nagell.
Left to cherish her memory are her children, Pat Huber and her husband Richard, Judy Vevang, and Dr Terry Boelter and his wife Kenlyn; grandchildren Gretchen Critelli (Tre’), Matt Vevang, Charlie Huber, Nick Boelter and Ali Boelter; great-grandchildren, Sophia, Ian, and Nicholas Critelli. She is also survived by her sister Fernmarie Nagell, sisters-in-law, Doreen Riley, Frances Boelter and Dorothy Boelter.
