Doris Nelle Jergensen was born January 6, 1921 in Montgomery, Iowa, the daughter of Jacob and Bessie (Simpson) Tritle. She was raised and educated in Dickinson County, graduating from Spirit Lake High School in 1938.

She was united in marriage to Milton Jergensen on April 29, 1939 in Storm Lake, Iowa. The couple first made their home in Spirit Lake before moving to Royal, Iowa in 1942. They also lived in Los Angeles for a year, before moving back to Spirit Lake.

Doris was a member of United Methodist Church in Spirit Lake, where she was active in the choir. She was a charter member of the local Sweet Adelines and won the “Sally” award in 1983, which she was quite proud of. She enjoyed playing the piano and organ, camping, eating out and visiting with friends.

She was the financial manager at Dickinson County Memorial Hospital for twenty-eight years.

Doris passed away Monday, April 2, 2007 at Hilltop Care Center in Spirit Lake at eighty-six years of age.

She is survived by her husband Milton; daughter Pat Andersen and her husband Tony; four grandsons and five great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her daughter, Judy, and son, Jon.
