Cecil ‘Sonny’ Ostheimer

On Sunday, January 14, 2007 our father, Cecil R. Ostheimer Jr. lost his life to cancer after a 12 year battle. He died in Cape Coral, Florida where he spent his last months enjoying the warmth and the sun. Cecil was a die hard fan of the Chicago Bears, Cubs and the Bulls. The last week of his life was spent in The Hospice House of Cape Coral, FL. The last day of his life was spent hearing the Bears playoff game. When the Bears took the lead with their second touchdown, our dad smiled and took his last breath. The Bears went on to a dramatic win!

Cecil was born in Lake Park, IA on June 1, 1939 at the family home. He grew up in Estherville and graduated from Estherville High School where he played football and then on to Iowa Lakes Community College. He went on to the University of Iowa where he studied law.

He married our mother, Rachael DeEtta James in 1968 and they moved to Chicago. He went to work for a law firm, CT Corporation for 9 years, then over to Prentice Hall Corp. We can testify that our mother and father loved each other. When our mother passed away young, our father vowed never to marry again. Though it was the cancer that took his life, it was her death that killed his heart. We know they are together again at last.

Cecil is survived by his step sons, Troy and Tim Schomaker, his three daughters, Chantelle Ostheimer (Tim Adams), Kirston Goodman (Chad) and Kristy Linn (Rodger), his sister Myra Swanson, grandchildren, Nick, Amanda and Cory Adams, Brody, Brandon and Courtney Linn, Dustin Deruyter and SeNora Goodman. He is also survived by his step grandchildren Tyler and Tynan Schomaker, Victoria, Allison and Sauna.

We love our father and he will be missed a whole, whole big bunch.

The Lord’s Prayer

Our Father, Who art in heaven;
Hallowed be Thy name;
Thy kingdom come;
Thy will be done on earth,
As it is in heaven;
Give us this day our daily bread;
And forgive us our trespasses,
As we forgive those who
Trespass against us;
And lead us not into temptation;
But deliver us from evil;
For Thine is the kingdom,
And the power, and the glory,
Forever and ever. Amen.
