Cleo C. Hopkins

Cleo Clayton Hopkins, 87, died January 5, 2007 at the Avera Heart Hospital in Sioux Falls, SD.

He was born to Clarence E. and Lila Mae Adams Hopkins of Gillette Grove, Iowa on August 11, 1919. He attended school in Gillette Grove and then continued on to Barber College in Sioux City where he graduated in 1938.

Cleo married Dorothy Erickson of Marathon, Iowa on December 7, 1937. They moved to Terril in 1948. They lived in Terril for 56 years where they raised their family, then moved to Spencer, Iowa in 2004. In earlier years of retirement, they spent winters in Harlingen, Texas.

During WWII Cleo served in the Army in the 71st Division, 66 Battalion, as a medic. Favorite pastimes were fishing and playing pool.

Cleo is survived by his wife Dorothy; two children, son, Gayl and his wife Kathy Hopkins of Clarinda, Iowa and daughter, Victoria McBain and Robert Coke of Dallas, Texas. Also surviving are four grandchildren, Scott McBain and James McBain, both from Dallas, Robert and Laura McBain from Bastrop, Texas and Susan Hopkins from Sioux City, one great grandson, Frank Frazer of Bastrop, Texas and nephew, Con Gerdes.

Preceding Cleo in death were his parents, sister, Velma Hoebin and a niece, Regina (Geiger) Rivera.
