Albert M. Eihausen Albert Mernus Eihausen was born December 27, 1918 near Rock Rapids, Iowa, the son of George and Jennie (Buss) Eihausen. He was raised and educated in Lyon County, attending two rural schools and graduating from Rock Rapids High School. On May 14, 1941, Albert was united in marriage to Ethel Julieth Houwen of Ashton, Iowa in the Messiah Lutheran Church of Independence, Missouri by Rev. E. H. Hosten. From October 14, 1941 to October 13, 1945, during which time he served his country during WWII in the 8th Air Force, as a flight engineer on B-24 Bombers, of the 453rd Bomb Group, Albert flew 32 of the 30 required missions over enemy territory while stationed at Buckinham, England. The last of his three Commanding Officers was Jimmy Stewart. After oversea duty, Albert was a hydraulic instructor at Biloxi, Mississippi. Upon Albert’s Honorable Discharge from the Army Air Corps, the couple returned to live in Dickinson County, where they farmed and raised their family. Following farming, Albert worked at Cycle Country in Milford. Albert passed away Thursday, February 22, 2007 at Lakes Regional Healthcare in Spirit Lake at eighty-eight years of age. Left to cherish his memory are his children, Connie Jo Tilda Gilmore and her husband Dick of Linn Grove, Iowa, sons Douglas Jon Eihausen of Milford, Iowa, Billy Jay Eihausen of Ft. Collins, Colorado, Alan Joel Eihausen and his wife Christina of Ft. Collins, Colorado and Eugene Jorji Eihausen and his wife Tracy of Glendale, Arizona. Also surviving are grandson’s Joshua, Blake, Brett and Devin. He was preceded in death by his wife Ethel, in 2004, an infant daughter, LaVon Joy Eihausen, brother, Marvin Eihausen, and sisters, Alice Huls and Bertha Weatherbee.
