Archie Dale Birt was born on February 2, 1925 in Terril, IA, the son of Durward and Edith (Winterberg) Birt. He was baptized in the Terril United Methodist Church. Archie attended the Terril Community School and graduated with the class of 1943.

Archie lived his entire life in Terril except for a short time in Waterloo, IA prior to entering the United States Army in 1944. He served his country during WW II.

Archie was a member of the Terril American Legion Post #432 in which he served as Commander for over ten years, Vice-Commander and Adjutant. He was named War Legionnaire for the year 1995 of the local post.

He enjoyed biking, bus touring and visiting residents of the nursing home for over thirty years.

Archie passed away on March 10, 2007 at the VA Hospital in Sioux Falls, South Dakota at eighty-two years of age.

Archie is survived by nieces and nephews and many friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, sister, Velma Schmich and two brothers, Bud and Mick.
